Three mistakes students often make
Averaging percentages instead of marks
72/100 in theory and 45/50 in practical is 117/150 = 78%, not the 81% you get by averaging 72% and 90%. Always add the raw marks first.
Taking a simple average of SGPAs
If semesters carry different credits, CGPA must be credit-weighted. The difference can decide whether you clear a placement cut-off of 7.0.
Letting attendance slide early
At a 75% requirement, every missed lecture needs about three attended lectures to make up for it. It is far easier to stay above the line than to climb back late in the semester.
Rules vary by institution
Grading scales, CGPA-to-percentage formulas, attendance condonation and pass marks are set by each board and university: CBSE, state boards, AICTE-affiliated universities, autonomous colleges. Our calculators use the most common methods and say so clearly, but your institution’s ordinance or mark-sheet legend is always the final authority.
