How many days are there between two dates? The Date Difference Calculator gives the exact number of days between any two dates, and also shows the gap in years, months and days, weeks and days, total months and total hours. Use it to count days to an exam or wedding, find how long you have worked somewhere, check the length of a loan or rental agreement, or work out the number of days for interest.
How to use the date difference calculator
- Choose the start date and end date. The order doesn’t matter, because the calculator always gives a positive difference.
- Press Calculate Difference.

Is the end date included?
The calculator counts the number of days from the start date to the end date. That is the number of midnights crossed, so the end date is not counted as an extra day. This is the usual convention for durations, ages and interest. From 1 March to 2 March is 1 day.
When you need both the first and the last day counted, as with leave applications, hotel stays counted in days, event durations or attendance periods, add 1 to the result. 1 March to 10 March is 9 days of difference but 10 days inclusive.
How the calculation works
Weeks = floor(Days ÷ 7), with the remainder in days
Years/months/days = calendar-based breakdown (same method as the Age Calculator)
The calculator uses real calendar dates, so leap days (29 February) and months of different lengths are handled correctly. It works on dates only, without times, so a daylight-saving change cannot shift the result by an hour.
Worked examples
Days until a future event
From 2 November 2026 to Independence Day, 15 August 2027: 286 days, or 40 weeks and 6 days, or 9 months and 13 days.
A historical span
From India’s independence (15 August 1947) to Republic Day, when the Constitution came into force (26 January 1950): 895 days, or 2 years, 5 months and 11 days.
A whole year
1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 is 364 days of difference, and 365 days if both dates are counted. 2026 is not a leap year.

Leap years: divisible by 4, except century years, which must be divisible by 400. Upcoming leap years are 2028, 2032 and 2036.
Where an exact day count matters
- Interest calculations: FD and loan interest for broken periods uses actual days ÷ 365.
- Capital gains holding period: whether listed shares or equity funds were held for more than 12 months decides whether gains are long-term.
- Visa and residency rules: for example, the 182-day test for Indian tax residency, or Schengen’s 90 days in any 180.
- Gratuity and service length: eligibility usually needs 5 years of continuous service, and some courts have counted 4 years 240 days as sufficient.
- Legal limitation periods: deadlines to file appeals or claims are counted in days from a specific date.

How do I calculate the number of days between two dates?

Does the result include the end date?
No. It counts the days between the dates (1 March to 2 March = 1 day). For an inclusive count, such as leave or event days, add 1 to the result.
How many days are there between 1 January and 31 December?
364 days by difference in a normal year, or 365 if you include both dates. In a leap year, these become 365 and 366.
Does the calculator account for leap years?
Yes. It uses real calendar dates, so 29 February is counted whenever it falls in the range.
How many weeks are there between two dates?
The calculator shows full weeks plus leftover days. For example, 286 days is 40 weeks and 6 days.
